BENEDEK HORVÁTH piano

Benedek Horváth, born 1989 in Budapest, stems from a Hungarian family of musicians and already recorded piano concertos with the MATAV Symphony Orchestra at the age of 13. Since then he has been a finalist at such leading competitions as Paloma O’Shea Santander Piano Competition and the Concours Clara Haskil (Vevey). In 2016 he recorded a solo programme of works by Liszt and Bartók for the French label Artalinna; a year later he gave his début at New York’s Merkin Hall, playing Liszt’s Second Piano Concerto. Recent highlights include solo appearances in Mozart’s Piano Concerto K 459 with the Musikkollegium Winterthur and Liszt’s Totentanz with the Sinfonieorchester Basel. In November 2018 he was awarded the Junior Prima, one of Hungary’s most prestigious cultural prizes. He completed a soloist’s diploma at Basel Academy of Music and received invaluable stimuli from András Schiff, Dimitri Bashkirov and Menahem Pressler.
